SPECIFICATIONS

PE Pipes should be supplied in accordance with a recognised specification.

The current specification for water and sewage is 12201.  This is a European specification and can be prefixed with either the EN or BSEN mark.

Both standards are essentially the same with the exception that the BSEN standard requires the pipe to be subjected to the "notch" or "10%" test.

This test simulates the possible scoring of the pipe wall and ensures the material type and grade used during manufacture is suitable.

The specification requirements are self certifying and it is up to the user to carry out any third party check such as those which the BSI carry out and which can then carry the BSI kite mark.
