SDR'S EXPLAINED

PE pipe is often referred to using the term SDR.  This reference to SDR relates to the pipes' rated pressure.

For example SDR17 denotes 10 bar, SDR11 denotes 16 bar.

SDR stands for standard dimensional ratio.

The standard dimensional ratio is the relationship between the outside diameter of the pipe and its minimum wall thickness.

It can be easily calculated by dividing the outside diameter and the wall thickness, for example a SDR11 pipe with a 180mm outside diameter must have an internal diameter of 16.4mm (SDR11 = 180mm/16.4mm) to deliver a pipe rated to 16 bar.
