Pipes can be jointed using either butt fusion or electrofusion techniques. Butt fusion involves heating the ends of the pipe with a butt fusion machine and fusing them together. Electrofusion involves utilising an electrofusion box which supplies energy to a PE fitting with an electrical heating coil which when energised melts the PE at both fitting and pipe which after being left to cool solidifies to form a sound joint.
